Click here for the Fan of the Month Archives!
After taking a month off for no real reason at all, we got our second Fan of the Month! Woohoo! We have two fans!
For April 2006 we got world famous Corey MacQueen to drop by and tell us why he's so important that he should be Fan of the Month. Our questions are in black, Corey's responses in white. Enjoy.
1. Who are you and how long have you been hitting the local dirt tracks?
I'm Corey MacQueen, and I've been going to the races regularly since 94 when I was HOOKED by Jeff Hoffman at MCFR. My first race was at Marion Center in
1982 though... my grandfather took me for my birthday. He had a migraine and was miserable the whole night, but he wouldn't go home til everything was over... I sure miss him!
2. How long have you been coming to Bill's message board?
Good question, it's been quite a while.
3. My local/regional track of choice is.... and why?
I really don't have a favorite around here... maybe Woodhull, or Stateline on a night when Jerry prepped the track and it's in good shape, they all have their positives and negatives... some have more than others. I've been lucky to have made it to many tracks across the nation while I was an over-the-road truck driver... Talladega Short Track, Tazewell, Bulls Gap and EastBay are my favorites.
4. We understand there may have been an altercation at Challenger a few years back. Please explain.
Umm... there are a few members on the board who could probably explain better than I. The details that I fuzzily recall include an empty LARGE bottle of Captain Morgan at 10AM (with a very full bottle of Coke left over), a severely torn pair of John Haggerty's Levi's, a camper with a 1* flag, my BIG mouth and bad timing, typical cold and rainy FallFest weather, some blood (mine and others), and a big puke stain on Randy Hall's dad's motorhome. But hey, I was pretty well sober by dinner time!!!
5. Give us your three best memories and three worst at the track.
Best
1. Jeff Hoffman beating Chub at TriCity in a NEWS race with a steel home built motor and monoleafs
2. Dutch's MACS win at McKean
3. the family that I have gained among the entire racing community... you all mean the world to me. OK, enough of that soft, mushy crap
Worst
1. A trip to EastBay with Todd Andrews... nothing went right that week, except the strawberries were ripe. Just ask Suppa and the Butt-Chin.
2. Dutch breaking a driveshaft while leading a STARS race at Conneaut in the dinosaur-turd Swartz car
3. Dutch and Rick Briggs' wreck at MCR right in front of me in turn 3... I thought they were both dead
6. I really love the food at ___ track. Can't friggin stand it at _____.
Oh sure... ask the fat guy about track food!!! The goulash at Little Valley is worth the trip, Franny's meatball subs and onion chips have become a tradition, other than that, it's been a whole lot of garbage
7. You live in Warren, PA. Why? What were you thinking?
It's a step up from Sheffield, where I grew up. Besides, I live in Youngsville, not Warren! Anyway, I live here because I love the area... it's home. I'm not a fast-paced person, so the area is a good match. I was just about to move a year and a half ago to find better work elsewhere, when I got hired at Betts...
Note - You were in (North)Warren!! We can't keep track of your movements!
8. Word association: We mention something, you tell us the first thing that comes to mind.
a. Dutch Davies - genuine guy, great friend, hard charger
b. WoO - lawyers, guns and money
c. McKean County Raceway - I'll keep my mouth shut
d. Eldora - got wood? That place is AWESOME
e. Challenger - Jack's money factory... more power to him, I love the place... even better than Pennsboro
f. Todd Andrews - it's too bad he has a business to run, he can run with anyone out there
g. Crate Engines - a decent idea if the rules are enforced to the EXTREME, and the idiot promoters don't say "hey, since you guys aren't REAL LM's, I'll pay ya $600 to win"
9. If I was a track owner, I would _____
Put on a SHOW, not just a race... get the kids, the crowd and the drivers involved. Anyone remember the golf cart races and such back in the day at Stateline? I'd run 4 classes... an entry-level StreetStock, eMods, LLM's, and Late Models. The rules would be written without gray areas, in a well-thought-out manner with much input from veteran racers, so as not to have STUPID rules that do nothing for competition, but cost the drivers a TON of money like flat-top pistons or stock (yeah right) transmissions.
10. In your opinion do internet message boards and communities help or hurt the sport of dirt track racing?
I've made friends all over the nation that I never would've met if it wasn't for 4m.net and Bill's... so, they've been a positive in my eyes. The problem (not so much here at Bill's) is that many people who have a computer have absolutely no clue what they're talking about on the boards. They like to start rumors and pick fights, instead of just sharing good info, results, and news. You have to sift through alot of garbage to find the good stuff.
There ya go... everything you never wanted to know about my abrasive, jackass self... GO DUTCH!!!
We find it hard to believe that Corey has made friends but who knows, stranger things have happened. Thanks to Corey for taking the time. Be sure to harrass him when you see him at the track.
