May 30th , 2006 - Max Blair!

We're back again! Two times in May even! This time we got a third generation driver from Titusville in Max Blair to answer our questions. Max of course is the son of Robbie Blair and is currently running in the steel block division at Raceway 7. Oh and we should mention Max is a ripe old 16. Enjoy!
1. First off we would like to take this time and thank you for being a part of the BDLM Family and taking our
little survey. Max, at what age did you get into racing go-karts before moving up into the E-Mod and Late Model Ranks and who was responsible for getting your feet wet in this sport?
I'm glad to......I started racing go-karts when I was 13. I raced half a season at 13 in 2003, and a full season at 14 in 2004. I won a total of 6 features. Then I did the e-mod deal last season! I have to give my dad 100% credit for getting me interested in racing. I have always loved hanging out in the garage. I think it was in like 2000 or so, my dad told me I could finally go in the pits at Stateline!! My grandfather raced, and obviously so does my dad, and I guess I wanted to carry on the tradition!
2. Where can we expect to see Max Blair racing in 2006? And also, earlier in the spring it was rumored that you were going to be racing weekly at Sharon Speedway. Is that deal still in the works?
I am going to really focus on Raceway7. I would really like to get like a top 3 or 4 in points over there! I will also be at a both SummerFest and FallFest hopefully racing with the steelblocks as long as they have them! I will race at some latemodel shows, like the MACS race at Sharon and other local races! Mike Bambarger wanted me to drive an e-mod for him and his wife, but unfortunately he has to move to Allentown for work so it's probably not going to happen.
3. Tell us fans what your brand of chassis is and the size and type of powerplant under the hood.
My car is a Rocket Chassis (one of dad's old ones) and Donnie Kramer built my motor.
4. After racing the E-Mod in 2005, do you believe it was a necessary learning curve for you before strapping into the full bodied late model type machines? Many notable drivers such as Billy Moyer and Donnie Moran have stated before in interviews that racing E-Mods have a lot of variables that transfer into learning set-ups and help get the rookie driver prepared for the next step forward in this sport. Do you believe this is true?
Yes, there is a lot of similarities between the e-mods and latemodels, I think it helped me a lot with the latemodel, both driving and setups!
5. Is your pit crew the same as your father's or do you have your own crew that helps you get the car on the track each week? Please give us the names and sponsors who are the driving force behind this rookie in the #111.
It is kind of the same, my dad's crew helps me a lot. But my uncles, Ron & Don Loney, go with me every week and usually tow me everywhere! My uncle Billie helps me when ever I need him to and my dad has spent I don't know how many Saturdays straightening out an e-mod so I could go racing on Sunday!
My sponsors are: Uncle Nick-Specialty Products, Bossard Used Auto Parts, Moody & Son Welding, Maloney Tool & Mold, Loney Timber Management, and most of all my dad!
6. I know this might be a pre-mature question for you at your age but, do you ever see yourself being the next Jeff Gordon or Denny Hamlin racing in the NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES after seeing these drivers getting their big break at such a young age?
Having that happen to you, is not very likely. But if I would ever get the opportunity, it would all depend on a lot of things.
7. Your father stated to me about a year ago that he believes you have more talent then he had at his age. Do you feel this is a fair statement by your father?
If someday I can be 1/2 as talented as he is, I will be more than satisfied!
8. I believe the day will come where we will see Max Blair and Rob Blair racing neck and neck in a feature event coming out of turn four for that checkered flag. Who Wins?
Well, I would definately win, but he'd spin me out when I passed him! lol...haha
9. We all know here at Bill's Dirt Late Models that your uncle Bill Blair helps me moderate this forum. Tell us how your uncle is helping you in this sport.
He helps me with a lot. He made my website, and when we're at the track, he will do anything I need him to. He helps me and my dad out a ton!
10. Word Association. We say a word or two and you give us your first thought.
A. Raceway 7 - Best facility around
B. Maplewood High School - Almost over
C. Late Models - A lot of fun
D. Chub Frank - Best dirt latemodel driver around
E. Rob Blair - Just dad

Hopefully in the near future we will also post a 10Q with Rob and if we can get a hold of Darrell we'll complete the Bossard-Blair trifecta.
